Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they aggregate real-time trader conviction rather than relying solely on meteorological models. While analysts publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric data, this market reflects collective belief about what the actual high will be on that specific day. Comparing the implied probability of each temperature range in this market to published forecasts from India Meteorological Department or similar agencies can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk relative to expert consensus.
On Polymarket, traders buy and sell outcome shares representing different temperature ranges, with each contract's price reflecting the probability that outcome will occur. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market uses an automated market maker model, so prices adjust continuously as traders enter and exit positions. Higher-priced contracts signal stronger market belief in those temperature outcomes, while lower prices indicate less conviction. Spreads between buy and sell prices tighten as volume increases, making it easier to trade in and out of positions.
This market resolves around Jun 14, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Lucknow on June 14 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome will be confirmed against official meteorological records or widely reported weather data for that date and location. Once the actual high temperature is established, the corresponding outcome contract will be marked correct, and all other contracts will expire worthless. Traders holding the winning contract receive their payout based on the final odds at which they held their position.
Major weather pattern shifts, monsoon onset timing, or unexpected heat waves could significantly alter trader expectations and shift prices in this market. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies, El Niño or La Niña developments, and real-time atmospheric data releases may prompt traders to reposition. As June 14 approaches, actual daily temperatures in the preceding weeks will anchor expectations for that specific date. Breaking news about climate anomalies or unusual weather systems affecting northern India could also trigger rapid repricing across all temperature outcome contracts.
