Frequently asked questions

The dashboard for the London temperature market on Polymarket displays real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in London on June 16. Traders use this interface to view current market sentiment, track how odds shift as new weather data emerges, and review 24-hour trading volume to gauge liquidity and interest. The market aggregates collective forecasts from participants who buy and sell shares based on their temperature predictions, offering a dynamic snapshot of crowd expectations for that specific date.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and continuous updating as new data arrives. While weather analysts publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on numerical models, this market prices uncertainty through trader behavior—rewarding accurate bets and penalizing poor calls. Over time, markets tend to incorporate analyst views, satellite imagery, and atmospheric patterns, but may weight recent data or consensus shifts differently. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd is more bullish or bearish on temperature than official forecasters.

On Polymarket, traders set odds by buying and selling shares that represent different temperature ranges or outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the collective probability assigned by the market; higher prices indicate stronger belief in that outcome. Liquidity pools or order books allow participants to enter and exit positions continuously, and the final price at any moment represents the marginal trader's assessment. Fees and slippage apply to trades, so larger positions may move prices more noticeably than smaller ones.

This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in London on June 16 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the predefined temperature thresholds or ranges offered in the market. Once the event concludes and official readings are confirmed, the winning outcome is locked in and traders' positions settle accordingly. Early resolution is unlikely unless the event is cancelled or postponed.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data will drive price swings in this market. Tropical systems, heat domes, or cold fronts approaching the UK could trigger sharp moves as traders reassess probabilities. Historical temperature records and climate anomalies for mid-June also inform positioning. As June 16 approaches, actual daily highs in the days before will anchor expectations more tightly. Media coverage of extreme weather or unusual seasonal trends may also influence trader sentiment and liquidity.
