Frequently asked questions

The London temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in London on July 7. Traders buy and sell shares based on their predictions of whether the peak temperature will reach specific thresholds. This transparent pricing mechanism reflects collective trader expectations updated continuously as new information emerges.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning and risk appetite alongside meteorological models. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market aggregates the financial incentives of thousands of participants betting real money on the outcome. Comparing current odds to published forecasts from the UK Met Office or other weather services can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk relative to official guidance. This divergence frequently highlights uncertainty that conventional forecasts may understate.

This market resolves around Jul 7, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in London on July 7 is finalized and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual weather station readings against the temperature thresholds embedded in each contract. Once the day concludes and official data is published, the market settles automatically based on which outcome bracket the recorded high falls into. Traders holding winning shares receive their payout proportional to the final odds.

Several factors can shift odds significantly before July 7. Updated weather models from meteorological agencies often trigger repricing as forecasters refine their predictions. Unusual atmospheric patterns, jet stream positioning, or heat waves affecting Europe can drive trader sentiment toward higher temperatures. Conversely, cooler-than-expected seasonal patterns or incoming weather systems may push odds lower. Real-time market moves also reflect other traders' conviction, creating momentum that can amplify or reverse initial moves. Monitor weather alerts and model updates closely for the most actionable signals.
