Frequently asked questions

The Polymarket dashboard for the Kuala Lumpur temperature market displays real-time odds and historical price movements for contracts tied to the highest temperature recorded in the city on June 19. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard reflects current market prices, cumulative trading volume, and the probability implied by each outcome. This live data helps participants monitor how market sentiment shifts as new weather forecasts and atmospheric data emerge.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior and collective expectations. While weather agencies issue deterministic temperature predictions based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with financial incentives to forecast accurately. Comparing the implied probability from market prices to official forecasts can reveal where traders expect greater or lower likelihood of extreme heat, offering a complementary perspective on June 19's expected conditions in Kuala Lumpur.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range contract trades independently, and the price of a share reflects the collective probability assigned by the market. As new weather data or forecasts circulate, traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The current price of any outcome divided by its maximum value yields the implied probability, which updates continuously throughout the trading period.

This market resolves around Jun 19, 2026, once June 19 has passed and the highest temperature in Kuala Lumpur can be verified. The outcome is confirmed against credible public sources reporting the day's peak temperature. Whichever temperature range bracket contains the verified high becomes the winning outcome, and traders holding shares in that bracket receive their payout. The resolution process is automated once the temperature data is finalized and confirmed.

Major weather pattern shifts, tropical storm developments, or updated seasonal forecasts can significantly influence trading activity. Real-time atmospheric pressure changes, monsoon intensity reports, and official meteorological alerts may prompt traders to reassess their positions. Additionally, historical temperature records for mid-June in Kuala Lumpur serve as reference points that traders monitor. As the date approaches, intraday weather updates and satellite imagery become increasingly important catalysts for price movement in this market.
