Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Kuala Lumpur temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for contracts tied to the highest temperature recorded in Kuala Lumpur on June 18. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, with prices reflecting the collective probability assigned to each outcome. The dashboard displays current market odds, 24-hour volume activity, and order-book depth, giving participants visibility into how the market is pricing various temperature scenarios. This live data helps traders monitor sentiment shifts and identify trading opportunities as new weather forecasts or atmospheric data emerge.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk appetite, and information asymmetries alongside official weather models. While meteorologists issue point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric science, this market aggregates the beliefs of many traders with financial skin in the game. Comparing the implied probability from market odds to published analyst forecasts for Kuala Lumpur's June 18 high can reveal whether traders are pricing in more upside or downside risk than experts expect. Such gaps sometimes signal overlooked data or reflect different time horizons and risk tolerances between the two groups.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker (AMM) mechanism where traders buy and sell shares of outcome contracts directly against a liquidity pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range has its own contract, and the price of each share reflects the probability the market assigns to that outcome occurring. As traders buy shares representing higher temperatures, the price of those contracts rises and the price of lower-temperature contracts falls, creating a dynamic equilibrium. The spread between bid and ask prices depends on pool depth and recent trading activity, with tighter spreads indicating higher liquidity and confidence in the market's pricing.

This market resolves around Jun 18, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Kuala Lumpur on June 18 is confirmed and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by official meteorological data, typically published by Malaysia's national weather service or internationally recognized climate databases. Traders holding shares in the winning temperature range receive their payout once the resolution is finalized and the platform settles all positions. The exact timing of resolution depends on when the final temperature reading is officially recorded and validated.

Major weather pattern shifts, tropical storm activity, or monsoon intensity changes could significantly move this market as traders reassess the likelihood of extreme heat on June 18. Updated climate forecasts from meteorological agencies, historical temperature anomalies, or unexpected atmospheric blocking patterns may trigger rapid repricing. Real-world events such as volcanic activity affecting solar radiation or sudden shifts in ocean temperatures could also influence trader sentiment. Additionally, as the event date approaches, intraday weather updates and short-range forecasts typically increase volatility, with traders adjusting positions based on the most recent atmospheric data and model consensus.
