Prediction market odds reflect collective trader judgment and often diverge from traditional weather forecasts or analyst predictions. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical data to project temperature ranges, this market aggregates the real-money bets of many participants with varying expertise and information access. Traders may price in factors like seasonal patterns, recent climate trends, or local events that influence temperature. Comparing the market's implied probability to official forecasts from weather agencies can reveal where consensus differs, though both approaches aim to predict the same physical outcome on June 16.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares representing different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share costs between 0 and 1 cent, with the price reflecting the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. When more traders believe a particular temperature range is likely, they bid up the price of shares representing that outcome. Conversely, skepticism drives prices down. The current market leader reflects the outcome traders view as most probable, though multiple temperature brackets may trade simultaneously, allowing you to compare relative confidence across the full range of possible highs.
This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, after the date in question has passed and the actual highest temperature in Kuala Lumpur can be verified. The outcome is determined by comparing trader predictions to the recorded temperature data from credible public sources. Once the event is verifiable, the market settles in favor of whichever outcome bracket or specific temperature prediction matches the official record. Traders who backed the correct outcome receive their winnings, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The resolution process is automated once data becomes available.
Several factors could shift trader expectations and move prices before resolution. Seasonal weather patterns, monsoon activity, or unusual atmospheric conditions reported in forecasts may prompt traders to adjust their bids. News of regional climate anomalies, volcanic activity, or solar events could influence long-range temperature expectations. As June 16 approaches, updated meteorological models and real-time weather data will likely trigger repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date in prior years may prompt traders to recalibrate if new information suggests a departure from the norm. Each new forecast update offers an opportunity for market sentiment to evolve.
