Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Kuala Lumpur temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for predictions about the highest temperature in Kuala Lumpur on July 12. The interface displays current market pricing, 24-hour volume of $31,460, and cumulative trading activity to help traders monitor sentiment shifts. This dashboard lets you follow how the market reprices as new weather data emerges and the event date approaches, offering transparency into collective forecaster expectations for tropical heat conditions in Malaysia's capital.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because traders incorporate real-time data, model uncertainty, and historical patterns differently than institutional weather services. While meteorologists issue deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the distributed knowledge of many participants betting real capital on the outcome. Comparing the market's implied probability to published forecasts from Malaysia's meteorological agency or regional weather bureaus can reveal where traders see underpriced or overpriced risk relative to expert consensus.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader positions into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy or sell shares representing outcomes—such as whether the high will be 27°C or below—and the price of each share reflects the collective probability assigned by the market. As new information arrives or sentiment shifts, the price adjusts instantly, allowing participants to enter or exit positions at transparent, continuously updated rates throughout the trading window.

This market resolves around Jul 12, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Kuala Lumpur on July 12 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual daily high against the specified threshold or range defined in the market's terms. Resolution typically occurs within hours or days after the event concludes, allowing traders to settle their positions once the meteorological data is finalized and confirmed.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases can significantly move this market. El Niño or monsoon intensity changes, volcanic activity affecting solar radiation, or unexpected urban heat island effects in Kuala Lumpur may alter trader expectations. Additionally, historical temperature records for July 12 and broader climate anomalies in Southeast Asia can trigger repricing. As the event date approaches, any official weather warnings or model consensus updates will likely drive sharp price movements as traders adjust their positions.
