Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the dashboard for the Jeddah temperature peak market displays real-time odds and historical price movements as traders forecast the highest temperature recorded in Jeddah on June 28. The interface shows current market probability, 24-hour trading volume, and order book depth, allowing participants to monitor how sentiment shifts as new weather data and forecasts emerge. This market aggregates collective trader expectations into a single price, reflecting the crowd's best estimate of the day's maximum temperature across multiple outcome brackets.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because traders incorporate real-time data, historical patterns, and risk sentiment into their pricing. While weather agencies publish deterministic point forecasts and confidence intervals, this market reflects the probabilistic views of many independent participants with financial incentives to be accurate. Comparing the leading outcome's implied probability to official forecasts can reveal whether traders are pricing in more upside or downside risk than meteorologists expect, offering a complementary perspective on temperature expectations.

On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker that converts buy and sell orders into real-time odds for each temperature outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each bracket reflects the ratio of capital allocated to that outcome relative to all others, so larger positions and higher conviction bets move the odds more dramatically. As new weather models or satellite data surfaces, traders adjust their positions, causing prices to shift continuously until the market closes.

This market resolves around Jun 28, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Jeddah on that date is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the single highest reading captured during the calendar day in the specified location. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature bracket receive their payout once the final measurement is confirmed and the market is settled.

Major weather model updates, seasonal climate anomalies, and real-time atmospheric conditions will drive significant price swings in this market. Release of new ensemble forecasts from meteorological agencies, unexpected heat waves, or shifts in monsoon patterns could shift trader positioning sharply. Additionally, historical temperature records for late June in Jeddah and any unusual geopolitical or environmental events affecting regional weather may influence how traders price the probability of extreme heat outcomes.
