Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning and financial incentives alongside meteorological models. While professional meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market reflects the collective judgment of participants who have money at stake. Traders may weight recent satellite imagery, seasonal anomalies, or climate patterns differently than consensus forecasts, sometimes leading to higher or lower probability estimates. Comparing the market's implied odds to published weather predictions can reveal where traders see additional upside or downside risk for extreme temperatures in Jeddah on that date.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that allows traders to buy and sell shares representing different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Participants trade against the liquidity pool, and the price of each outcome adjusts dynamically based on supply and demand. The current odds reflect the marginal trader's view of the probability that the highest temperature will reach specific thresholds. As new weather data, forecasts, or seasonal patterns emerge, traders adjust their positions, causing prices to move and the implied probability to shift in real time.
This market resolves around Jul 3, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Jeddah on July 3 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual recorded temperatures against the specific thresholds defined in the market's outcome categories. Resolution typically occurs within hours or days after the event date, once official meteorological data is published and confirmed. Traders should monitor weather station reports and official climate records to anticipate how the market will settle.
Several factors could shift odds in this market before resolution. Updated seasonal forecasts or climate pattern analyses from meteorological agencies may signal higher or lower temperature probabilities. Real-time weather developments—such as shifts in jet streams, unexpected heat waves, or cooling systems—can trigger rapid repricing. Historical temperature records for early July in Jeddah and recent years' data may influence trader positioning. Additionally, any anomalies in global climate patterns or regional atmospheric conditions reported by weather services could prompt traders to adjust their positions, causing significant price movement as the event date approaches.
