Prediction market odds on this market reflect aggregated trader beliefs and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts rely on numerical models and historical climate data, prediction markets incorporate real-time information, trader expertise, and market incentives. Comparing the implied probability from this market to published forecasts from meteorological agencies can reveal where traders expect conditions to differ from model consensus. Such divergences sometimes signal emerging data or regional factors that analysts may not yet have fully weighted, making the market a complementary signal to conventional forecasting.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker that adjusts odds based on buy and sell pressure across outcome shares. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—representing a specific temperature range or threshold—trades as a separate contract, with prices summing to 100 cents. As traders buy shares predicting higher or lower temperatures, the market maker rebalances, moving prices to reflect the new supply-demand equilibrium. This continuous pricing mechanism ensures liquidity and allows participants to enter or exit positions throughout the trading window.
This market resolves around Jul 2, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Jeddah on July 2 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by official meteorological data or widely-reported temperature measurements from that date. Traders should monitor weather reporting and official records as the event approaches to assess how conditions are tracking relative to market expectations. Resolution typically occurs within hours or days of the event, once the final temperature is confirmed and published.
Market prices could shift significantly based on updated weather forecasts, seasonal climate patterns, or atmospheric anomalies reported by meteorological agencies. Major weather systems, heat waves, or unexpected cooling events in the Arabian Peninsula region would likely trigger repricing. Real-time temperature readings and intraday forecasts closer to July 2 will influence trader positioning as uncertainty narrows. Additionally, historical temperature records for Jeddah and broader regional climate trends may prompt traders to adjust their probability estimates, especially if new data suggests conditions will deviate from typical July patterns.
