Description

This event group asks what the highest temperature in Houston will be on July 1, 2026. Kalshi frames it as a yes/no resolution covering all temperature ranges, while Polymarket offers a suite of specific temperature-range buckets. Both use official weather data sources but reference different dates and measurement stations.

PredictionHero - Resolution Divergence Alerts (RDA)

Divergence Detected

Issue: Kalshi references June 30, 2026 while Polymarket references July 1, 2026. Kalshi does not specify a measurement station or data source precision, while Polymarket explicitly uses William P. Hobby Airport Station (KHOU) via Wunderground with whole-degree Fahrenheit precision. This makes the two market groups fundamentally measure different events.Hero tip: This divergence is critical. Before trading, confirm with each platform whether the date discrepancy is intentional or an error. If both should resolve on July 1, Kalshi's market may be unresolvable or require amendment. If they intentionally measure different dates, treat them as separate events entirely. Polymarket's explicit station and source (KHOU/Wunderground) provides higher settlement certainty than Kalshi's unspecified National Weather Service reference.

Critical divergence points:

  • Kalshi: All six conditions resolve to Yes regardless of temperature range (< 91°F, 91-92°F, 93-94°F, 95-96°F, 97-98°F, > 98°F) using National Weather Service Climatological Report for June 30, 2026. No measurement station specified. Key Quote: 'maximum temperature recorded at Houston for Jun 30, 2026.'
  • Polymarket: Thirteen separate markets covering specific temperature ranges from 83°F and below through 102°F and higher, using Wunderground historical data for William P. Hobby Airport Station (KHOU) on July 1, 2026, measured to whole degrees Fahrenheit. Key Quote: 'highest temperature recorded at the William P. Hobby Airport Station in degrees Fahrenheit on 1 Jul '26.'
Our PredictionHero Resolution Divergence Alerts (RDA) are there to help users identify potential differences across platforms. They do not replace or supersede the official rules and description of any prediction market. Users are solely responsible for reviewing and understanding the applicable rules and resolution criteria before placing any trade or bet. If you notice a potential inconsistency, discrepancy, or error in an alert, please report it to our team so we can review and improve the accuracy of our data.

Polymarket

This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the highest temperature recorded at the William P. Hobby Airport Station in degrees Fahrenheit on 1 Jul '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from Wunderground, specifically the highest temperature recorded for all times on this day for the William P. Hobby Airport Station, available here: https://www.wunderground.com/history/daily/us/tx/houston/KHOU. To toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius, click the gear icon next to the search bar and switch the Temperature setting between °F and °C. This market can not resolve until the first data point for the following date has been published on the resolution source. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Fahrenheit (eg, 21°F). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Revisions to temperatures recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following date has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.

Kalshi

Resolution is based on the maximum temperature recorded at Houston on June 30, 2026, according to the National Weather Service's Climatological Report (Daily) for CLIHOU. The official data source is accessed via the NWS website by navigating to the Observed Weather tab and selecting Houston-Hobby, TX with Daily Climate Report. Temperature ranges are categorized as follows: 90°F or below, 91-92°F, 93-94°F, 95-96°F, 97-98°F, and 99°F or above. Each range corresponds to a distinct market outcome. Traders should note that preliminary NWS data may be subject to rounding and conversion nuances, and the final official NWS Climatological Report (Daily) serves as the authoritative source, superseding other weather services.

Frequently asked questions

Prediction market prices reflect real-money bets from traders who profit when their forecasts prove correct, creating strong incentives for accuracy. Unlike traditional weather forecasts from meteorologists, which rely on physics-based models, this market aggregates dispersed information and trader conviction into a single probability. Markets often outperform individual forecasters on binary outcomes because they penalize overconfidence and reward calibration. For Houston's July 1 temperature, comparing the market consensus to National Weather Service or private forecaster guidance can reveal where traders see edge or disagreement with official models.

Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts different trader demographics, liquidity pools, and fee structures, which can create temporary price gaps on identical outcomes. Polymarket and Kalshi may also use slightly different contract designs—such as temperature bands or rounding conventions—that appeal to different strategies. Regulatory constraints, market depth, and the timing of large trades can amplify these divergences. Savvy traders monitor both venues to identify arbitrage opportunities or to gauge which platform's crowd is more informed on weather-specific catalysts.

Major weather pattern shifts—such as a cold front, high-pressure system, or tropical activity—can dramatically reprrice temperature expectations. Updates from the National Weather Service, European, or GFS forecast models often trigger trader repositioning hours or days before July 1. Urban heat island effects, cloud cover, and humidity levels also influence peak temperatures and may spark debate among market participants. Real-time satellite imagery, atmospheric pressure trends, and historical July 1 records for Houston can serve as leading indicators that prompt early position adjustments.
