This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the highest temperature recorded by the Hong Kong Observatory in degrees Celsius on 6 Jun '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Absolute Daily Max (deg. C)" the specified date once information is finalized in the relevant "Daily Extract", available here: https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm This market can not resolve until data for this date has been published. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures in Celsius to one decimal place (eg, 9.1°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is initially published for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader expectations and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts issued by Hong Kong Observatory or regional weather services. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical climate data, prediction markets incorporate real-time information, trader conviction, and financial incentives. Comparing Polymarket implied probabilities to published analyst temperature ranges can reveal whether markets are pricing in tail risks, seasonal anomalies, or recent climate trends that official forecasts may weight differently.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Hong Kong on June 6 is priced through outcome contracts representing discrete temperature ranges or specific thresholds. Each outcome token trades at a price reflecting the market's probability estimate; for example, a contract paying $1 if the actual high exceeds 32°C trades at a price proportional to that likelihood. Traders buy and sell these contracts to express views on June weather patterns, monsoon activity, and urban heat effects in Hong Kong.
The market resolves on Jun 6, 2026, after the highest temperature recorded in Hong Kong on June 6, 2026 is officially published. Resolution is determined by the actual daily maximum temperature observed at the designated weather station or official meteorological authority in Hong Kong. Traders' positions settle based on which outcome bracket or threshold the final temperature falls into, with payouts distributed accordingly to contract holders.
Key drivers include seasonal monsoon onset timing, tropical cyclone activity in the South China Sea, upper-atmosphere pressure patterns, and urban heat island intensity. Early-season heat waves, shifts in the Pacific subtropical high, or anomalous sea-surface temperatures can all influence June temperatures in Hong Kong. Real-time weather model updates, official meteorological advisories, and historical temperature records from prior Junes will likely prompt trader repositioning as June 6 approaches, moving market odds in response to new atmospheric data.
