This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the highest temperature recorded by the Hong Kong Observatory in degrees Celsius on 5 Jun '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Absolute Daily Max (deg. C)" the specified date once information is finalized in the relevant "Daily Extract", available here: https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm This market can not resolve until data for this date has been published. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures in Celsius to one decimal place (eg, 9.1°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is initially published for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader expectations and often incorporate meteorological forecasts from professional weather services. While analyst models from institutions like the Hong Kong Observatory provide deterministic temperature predictions, prediction markets translate uncertainty into probabilistic odds. Market prices typically converge toward analyst consensus as the event date approaches, but may diverge if traders identify model bias or expect unusual atmospheric conditions. Comparing Polymarket implied probabilities to published forecasts helps identify whether the market is pricing in tail risks or systematic forecast errors that analysts may overlook.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, this event is priced using an automated market maker model where traders buy and sell shares corresponding to specific temperature ranges or point outcomes. Each outcome contract reflects the probability that the highest temperature will fall within that bracket on June 5. Prices adjust continuously based on order flow, with the cost of a share inversely related to its implied probability. Traders profit by correctly predicting whether the actual recorded high will exceed or fall short of market consensus. The market remains open until Jun 5, 2026, after which the winning outcome is determined and settled.
Temperature expectations for Hong Kong on June 5 could shift based on updated seasonal weather forecasts, tropical cyclone activity, monsoon patterns, and atmospheric pressure systems. Real-time meteorological data releases, including satellite imagery and model updates from regional weather bureaus, typically move odds as June approaches. Unusual heat waves or cold fronts affecting East Asia may trigger repricing. Historical temperature records and climatological anomalies can also influence trader positioning. As the event date nears, intraday weather updates and final forecast consensus from the Hong Kong Observatory will likely drive the most significant price movements on Polymarket.
