Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Hong Kong temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in Hong Kong on June 18. The interface displays current trader sentiment through live probability estimates, along with 24-hour volume data reflecting recent trading activity. This market aggregates predictions from participants betting on specific temperature thresholds, allowing you to monitor how consensus shifts as the event date approaches. The dashboard provides a transparent view of market-implied forecasts versus traditional weather models.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk appetite, and information asymmetries. While weather analysts rely on physics-based models and historical data, this market reflects what participants are willing to stake on specific outcomes. Prediction markets can sometimes lead or lag official forecasts depending on data availability and market liquidity. Comparing the implied probability here to published forecasts from meteorological agencies helps identify where market participants see value or uncertainty that traditional models may underweight.

On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker mechanism where each outcome has a continuous price between 0 and 1, representing the implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Buying a contract at a lower price and selling at a higher price generates profit if your forecast proves correct. The market price adjusts dynamically as new trades flow in, meaning early movers and late traders face different odds. Liquidity depth determines how much slippage you experience on larger orders, so checking the order book before trading is prudent.

This market resolves around Jun 18, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Hong Kong on June 18 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the predefined temperature brackets offered in the market. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event concludes, allowing traders to settle positions promptly. Disputes are rare when official weather station records are publicly available and unambiguous.

Major weather pattern shifts, tropical storm warnings, or unexpected atmospheric conditions could significantly alter odds in this market. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies often trigger repricing as traders incorporate new data. Geopolitical or climate-related news affecting regional weather patterns may also influence sentiment. As June 18 approaches, intraday weather updates and real-time satellite imagery typically drive final price adjustments. Early-season heat waves or cooling trends in the weeks prior can shift baseline expectations and reshape trader positioning.
