Prediction market odds reflect real-money consensus from traders betting on Helsinki's May 31 temperature, while analyst forecasts typically come from meteorological models and seasonal climate assessments. Markets often incorporate broader information faster than traditional forecasts, including recent weather patterns and atmospheric data. However, analyst predictions from Finnish meteorological institutes provide peer-reviewed scientific baselines. Comparing the two reveals whether traders are pricing in more optimistic or pessimistic temperature scenarios relative to expert consensus.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Helsinki on May 31 is priced through outcome shares representing specific temperature ranges or thresholds. Traders buy and sell shares corresponding to their belief about whether the actual high will fall into each range. The price of each share reflects the market's implied probability; higher prices indicate stronger trader conviction. Volume and liquidity on Polymarket determine how easily traders can enter or exit positions, with active trading typically tightening spreads around the most likely outcomes.
The market resolves on May 31, 2026, after the highest temperature in Helsinki on May 31 has been recorded and verified. The outcome is determined by the official temperature reading for that day, typically sourced from Finland's national meteorological authority or recognized weather station data for Helsinki. Once the actual high temperature is confirmed, the market settles according to which outcome bracket or threshold it falls into, and traders holding winning shares receive their payout.
Major weather pattern shifts, such as changes in Atlantic jet stream positioning or high-pressure system development over Scandinavia, could significantly move odds. Spring warming trends or unexpected cold snaps in late May would alter trader expectations. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies and real-time weather model runs in the days leading up to May 31 often trigger repricing. Additionally, historical temperature anomalies or climate data releases could influence market sentiment about whether Helsinki will experience an unusually warm or cool day relative to climatological norms.
