Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning, risk appetite, and breaking weather data. While meteorologists issue point estimates and confidence intervals based on physics-driven models, this market aggregates the financial incentives of thousands of participants betting real capital on the outcome. Comparing the implied probability here to official weather service forecasts can reveal where the crowd sees asymmetric risk or where consensus is shifting faster than traditional models update.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range outcome has its own share price, ranging from 0 to 100 cents, where the price reflects the implied probability that outcome will occur. As traders adjust their positions based on new weather data, model updates, or shifting expectations, the market price moves in real time, creating a continuous price discovery mechanism that balances supply and demand across all possible temperature brackets.
This market resolves around Jun 15, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Helsinki on June 15 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the actual peak temperature reading from an official meteorological station or recognized weather authority for that date. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome bracket receive their payout once the result is confirmed and the market settles automatically.
Major weather model updates, seasonal pattern shifts, and atmospheric pressure changes can significantly move prices in this market. High-impact signals include revised long-range forecasts from meteorological agencies, unexpected jet stream positioning, or anomalous ocean temperature patterns affecting Nordic weather. Breaking news about heat waves or cold fronts approaching Scandinavia, changes in solar activity forecasts, or shifts in trader positioning ahead of the settlement date will all influence how participants reassess their probability estimates and adjust their bets accordingly.
