Prediction market odds reflect real-money incentives for accuracy, often incorporating meteorological forecasts and historical weather patterns. Professional weather analysts typically rely on numerical models and satellite data to project temperature ranges, while this market aggregates trader beliefs into a single probability. Markets can diverge from traditional forecasts when traders have access to local knowledge or when consensus shifts rapidly. Comparing the market odds to published forecasts from national weather services offers insight into how traders are pricing in uncertainty relative to expert opinion.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker that adjusts odds based on buy and sell volume. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—such as whether the highest temperature will be 18°C—is priced as a percentage probability between 0 and 100. When traders believe an outcome is underpriced, they buy shares; when overpriced, they sell. This continuous price discovery mechanism means the market price reflects the latest information and trader sentiment available at any moment.
This market resolves around Jul 3, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Helsinki on July 3 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature to the specific threshold outlined in the market contract. Resolution occurs after the event date has passed and official temperature data is confirmed, allowing traders to settle their positions based on the verified result.
Weather model updates and seasonal forecasts can shift market odds significantly as new meteorological data emerges. Major atmospheric patterns—such as heat waves, cold fronts, or pressure systems affecting Northern Europe—may trigger repricing. Real-time weather alerts and adjustments from national forecasters often prompt traders to reassess their positions. Additionally, historical temperature records for early July in Helsinki and recent climate trends influence trader behavior. As July 3 approaches, intraday weather developments and final forecast consensus typically drive the most volatile price movements.
