Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money traders' collective assessment of Guangzhou's June 5 high temperature, often incorporating meteorological models and seasonal patterns faster than traditional analyst consensus. While weather forecasters typically issue deterministic point estimates or narrow ranges, prediction markets price uncertainty across a full distribution of outcomes. Comparing market odds to published forecasts from China Meteorological Administration or regional weather services can reveal whether traders are pricing in greater tail-risk scenarios, such as unusual heat waves or cooler-than-normal conditions, that analysts may underweight.
On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Guangzhou on June 5 is priced as a set of mutually exclusive outcome contracts, each representing a temperature range or specific threshold. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy and sell shares in each outcome, with the price of a share reflecting the market's implied probability that outcome will occur. As new weather data, seasonal forecasts, or climate patterns emerge, traders adjust positions, moving prices up or down. The outcome with the highest price typically represents the market's most likely scenario for Guangzhou's peak temperature on that day.
The market resolves on Jun 5, 2026, after the highest temperature in Guangzhou on June 5 has been recorded and verified. The specific outcome that occurred—whether a particular temperature range or threshold—determines which contract holders receive their payout. Resolution depends on official meteorological data from recognized weather stations in Guangzhou, ensuring an objective and auditable settlement. Once the actual high temperature is confirmed, the winning outcome is declared and traders' positions are settled accordingly.
Major weather pattern shifts, including monsoon onset timing, tropical cyclone activity, or upper-level atmospheric changes, can significantly move odds for Guangzhou's June 5 high. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies, El Niño or La Niña developments, and real-time atmospheric data releases will influence trader positioning. As June 5 approaches, short-range weather models become more reliable, typically causing odds to converge toward the most probable outcome. Unusual heat waves affecting East Asia or unexpected cold fronts could also trigger repricing. Breaking climate or weather news in late May will be the strongest catalyst for market movement.
