Prediction market odds and traditional weather forecasts operate on different timescales and methodologies. Meteorological agencies publish deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric modeling, while this market aggregates trader beliefs into real-time odds. Early in the contract lifecycle, analyst predictions and market prices may diverge significantly as traders incorporate their own data sources, regional expertise, and risk appetite. As the event date nears and official forecasts sharpen, market odds typically converge toward consensus estimates. Comparing the two reveals whether traders are pricing in tail risks or systematic biases that meteorologists may not emphasize.
This market resolves around Jun 28, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Guangzhou on June 28 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature—typically reported by the China Meteorological Administration or equivalent official weather stations—against the contract's specified threshold. Traders who backed the correct outcome receive their payout proportionally, while those on the losing side forfeit their stake. Resolution occurs shortly after the event concludes and data is confirmed, ensuring all participants have access to the same authoritative information.
Several catalysts can shift odds in this market before Jun 28, 2026. Updated weather models from meteorological agencies—particularly those showing shifts in monsoon patterns, heat waves, or cold fronts—often trigger sharp repricing. Real-time atmospheric data, such as sea-surface temperatures or upper-air pressure systems, can signal changing conditions. Major weather events in neighboring regions may also influence regional temperature expectations. Additionally, as the event date approaches, traders may reduce positions to lock in profits or hedge uncertainty, creating natural volatility. Late-breaking forecasts and any anomalous seasonal patterns will likely drive the final price discovery phase.
