Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Guangzhou temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in Guangzhou on June 17. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays the current probability distribution across all outcomes. You can monitor 24-hour volume and order-book depth to gauge market liquidity and conviction. This live data helps you understand how the crowd is pricing temperature expectations as new weather forecasts and atmospheric data emerge.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and risk appetite alongside official weather models. While meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals, this market aggregates dispersed information through price discovery—traders who believe the consensus is too high or too low can profit by taking the opposite side. Over time, markets tend to converge toward accuracy as new data arrives, but short-term misalignment between crowd odds and analyst predictions can signal where uncertainty or disagreement is highest.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—representing a specific temperature range—has a price between 0 and 1 (or 0% to 100%), and the cost to buy a share increases as more traders accumulate that outcome. The market price reflects the collective belief about which temperature range is most likely. Liquidity providers deposit capital into the pool and earn fees from trades, while speculators profit or lose based on whether their chosen outcome occurs.

This market resolves around Jun 17, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Guangzhou on June 17 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the single highest temperature reading for that calendar day, measured in degrees Celsius. Resolution occurs after the day has passed and official meteorological data is published and confirmed. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases will drive significant price moves in this market. Tropical cyclones, heat waves, or cold fronts approaching southern China can reshape trader expectations overnight. Official meteorological alerts and regional climate advisories also influence positioning. As June 17 approaches, intraday weather updates and satellite imagery become increasingly important. Late-breaking model consensus changes or unusual atmospheric conditions in the days leading up to the event often trigger sharp repricing as traders adjust their bets.
