Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect crowdsourced expectations from traders and can be compared against meteorological forecasts from weather agencies and climate analysts. While traditional forecasters rely on atmospheric models and historical data, prediction markets incorporate real-time information and financial incentives for accuracy. Comparing the market's implied temperature range to official seasonal outlooks for Chongqing in late May helps identify where traders diverge from expert consensus. Such divergences often signal either market inefficiency or emerging data that analysts have not yet fully incorporated.
The market resolves on May 31, 2026, after the highest temperature in Chongqing on May 31, 2026 has been recorded and verified. Resolution depends on official temperature data from meteorological authorities monitoring Chongqing during that calendar day. The outcome is determined by the peak temperature reading captured at the designated weather station or official measurement point. Once the data is confirmed and published, the market settles to the corresponding outcome contract, and traders receive payouts based on their positions.
Several factors can shift market odds for Chongqing's May 31 temperature. Updates to seasonal climate forecasts, particularly El Niño or La Niña patterns affecting East Asia, influence long-term expectations. Real-time weather model runs in late May will sharpen near-term predictions and drive significant repricing. Regional atmospheric anomalies, monsoon onset timing, and urban heat island effects specific to Chongqing all factor into trader assessments. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and recent May trends in the region serve as anchors for probability estimates, with any surprising early-season heat waves or cold snaps potentially triggering rapid market moves.
