Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Chongqing temperature market dashboard displays real-time odds and historical price movements for predictions about the highest temperature in Chongqing on June 30. Traders on this platform continuously update their positions based on weather forecasts, seasonal patterns, and emerging climate data. The dashboard shows how market participants are pricing the likelihood of specific temperature thresholds being reached or not reached on that date. This live pricing mechanism reflects the collective assessment of thousands of traders responding to new information throughout the prediction period.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment, historical volatility, and broader market dynamics beyond pure weather modeling. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and computational models, this market aggregates the financial incentives of participants betting on actual outcomes. Analyst forecasts tend to be more conservative and model-driven, whereas prediction markets can react faster to breaking news or unusual patterns. Comparing the two reveals whether traders are pricing in more or less risk than official forecasters expect for June 30 conditions in Chongqing.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares representing yes or no outcomes for specific temperature thresholds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current odds reflect the balance between buyers and sellers at any given moment. Each contract represents a claim about whether the highest temperature will fall within a defined range, and the price of each share fluctuates based on supply and demand. Traders profit by correctly predicting the outcome, creating strong incentives for accurate pricing and continuous market adjustment as new weather data emerges.

This market resolves around Jun 30, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Chongqing on June 30 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature on that day against the threshold specified in the market contract. Resolution occurs after the event has concluded and official temperature data is published and confirmed. Traders' positions settle based on whether the real-world temperature outcome matches the prediction they backed.

Major weather pattern shifts, seasonal anomalies, and updated climate forecasts can significantly move odds in this market. Tropical systems, heat waves, or unusual atmospheric conditions affecting East Asia would trigger rapid repricing. Long-range weather models released by meteorological agencies often spark trader activity as new data becomes available. Historical temperature records for Chongqing in late June also influence expectations. Media coverage of regional climate events, El Niño or La Niña developments, and real-time temperature readings as June 30 approaches will all drive trading volume and price adjustments leading up to resolution.
