Prediction market odds reflect real-money bets from traders worldwide, whereas traditional analyst forecasts rely on meteorological models and expert judgment. This market's odds represent a decentralized consensus: traders who believe Chongqing will exceed 37°C on June 16 buy shares at higher prices, while skeptics sell. Analyst forecasts typically come from weather services using atmospheric data and historical patterns. The two often converge when data is clear, but markets can diverge when uncertainty is high or when traders spot signals analysts have underweighted. Comparing the two reveals where expert and crowd opinion differ most.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares tied to the outcome: will the highest temperature in Chongqing be 37°C or higher on June 16? On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share costs between 0 and 1 dollar, and the current price reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome. When more capital flows into "yes" shares, the price rises; when traders exit or buy "no," it falls. The market price you see is the marginal rate at which the last trade occurred, making it a continuous, transparent signal of collective belief about whether extreme heat will arrive.
This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once June 16 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Chongqing that day is verified. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature to the 37°C threshold. If the highest reading reaches or exceeds 37°C, the "yes" outcome wins; if it stays below, "no" prevails. Resolution is confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting, ensuring all traders have access to the same factual basis for settlement.
Several catalysts could shift odds before resolution. Updated seasonal weather forecasts from meteorological agencies may raise or lower confidence in extreme heat. Real-time atmospheric pressure, humidity, and jet-stream patterns reported by weather services could signal a heat wave or cooler conditions. Historical temperature records for Chongqing in mid-June provide a baseline; if recent years show a warming trend, traders may increase bets on 37°C+. Breaking news about climate patterns, monsoon timing, or regional weather systems can also trigger rapid repricing. As June 16 approaches, actual daily temperatures in the days before will anchor expectations more tightly.
