Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning and risk appetite alongside expert models. While weather analysts publish deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric data, this market reflects what thousands of traders collectively believe will happen, weighted by their financial commitment. Comparing the two can reveal whether the market is pricing in tail risks or consensus scenarios that official forecasts may downplay or emphasize differently. Both sources offer value: analysts provide technical depth, while markets aggregate distributed knowledge and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes.
This market resolves around Jul 2, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Chongqing on July 2 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature on that date to the 23°C threshold specified in the market. Once the event occurs and the data is confirmed, the market will settle automatically, paying out traders who correctly predicted the outcome. No further trading occurs after resolution.
Major weather pattern shifts—such as monsoon intensity changes, heat waves, or cold fronts—can significantly move odds as meteorologists update their forecasts. Seasonal climate anomalies, El Niño or La Niña activity, and historical temperature comparisons for early July in Chongqing all influence trader positioning. Breaking news about atmospheric conditions or unexpected weather events in nearby regions may also trigger repricing. As the event date approaches, intraday forecasts become more precise, often causing sharper moves in the final days. Real-time temperature readings on July 2 itself will drive the final price discovery before settlement.
