Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-time trader expectations about Chengdu's peak temperature on June 5, incorporating weather models, historical data, and seasonal trends. Analyst forecasts from meteorological agencies typically rely on deterministic climate models and historical averages. Market odds often diverge from analyst point estimates because traders price in tail risks, uncertainty ranges, and the possibility of anomalous weather events. Comparing the two reveals whether the market is pricing in more or less extreme temperature outcomes than official forecasters expect.
On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Chengdu on June 5 is priced as a binary outcome: Will the highest temperature be 41°C or higher? On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy and sell shares representing yes or no positions, with the price reflecting the probability of that threshold being met. As new weather data, seasonal patterns, and real-time conditions emerge, traders adjust positions, moving the price up or down. The current market price directly represents the collective forecast of all active traders on the platform.
The market resolves on Jun 5, 2026, after the highest temperature in Chengdu on June 5 is officially recorded. The outcome is determined by verified temperature data from the specified date and location. Once the official high temperature is confirmed, the market settles based on whether it meets or exceeds the threshold defined in the outcome. Traders holding the correct position receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless.
Several factors could shift market odds before resolution. Updated weather forecasts and seasonal climate models may indicate stronger or weaker heat patterns. Large-scale atmospheric systems, monsoon activity, or anomalies in regional air circulation could alter expectations. Real-time temperature trends in the weeks leading up to June 5 will anchor trader beliefs. Urban heat island effects, pollution levels, and local weather station data may also influence pricing. As the date approaches, actual daily temperatures and intra-seasonal forecasts will drive the most significant repricing.
