The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Celsius (eg, 9°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Revisions to temperatures recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following date has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader beliefs about Cape Town's high temperature on June 3, often diverging from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data, prediction markets incorporate real-time information, trader conviction, and financial incentives. Markets may price in tail risks or consensus shifts faster than official forecasts update. Comparing Polymarket odds to major weather services and local South African meteorology reports can reveal where traders see value or disagreement with institutional predictions.
The market resolves at Jun 3, 2026. Resolution is determined by the official recorded high temperature in Cape Town on June 3. The outcome is typically sourced from a recognized meteorological authority or weather station serving the Cape Town area. Once the event date passes and the final temperature is confirmed, the market settles to the outcome contract matching the actual high, and all other contracts expire worthless. Traders holding the correct outcome receive their payout based on the price at which they held their shares.
Major weather pattern shifts, including changes to high-pressure systems or cold fronts affecting southern Africa, can significantly move odds. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological services and ensemble weather models will influence trader positioning. Ocean temperature anomalies and the Southern Oscillation Index may signal warmer or cooler conditions for early June. As the event date approaches, short-range forecasts become more reliable and typically trigger sharp repricing. Real-time weather alerts, atmospheric pressure trends, and any unusual climate events in the weeks before June 3 will drive trading activity and odds adjustments.
