Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Cape Town temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature forecast in Cape Town on June 19. The interface displays current trader sentiment through live odds, 24-hour volume data, and order book depth, giving you a snapshot of how the market is pricing different temperature outcomes. This dashboard lets you monitor shifts in trader conviction as new weather data emerges, helping you understand which temperature ranges the crowd expects most likely.

Prediction market odds and traditional analyst forecasts often diverge because they reflect different methodologies. Meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical data, while traders in this market aggregate dispersed information and personal conviction through real-money incentives. Analyst forecasts tend to be point estimates or narrow ranges, whereas prediction markets express probability distributions across many possible outcomes. Comparing the two can reveal where crowd sentiment differs from official guidance—sometimes the market leads, sometimes it lags analyst updates.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares tied to specific temperature ranges or outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on a particular outcome, and the market price reflects the collective probability estimate. As new weather forecasts or real-time data emerge, traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The continuous order book ensures transparent pricing and allows you to enter or exit at any time before the market closes.

This market resolves around Jun 19, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Cape Town on that date becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by official meteorological records or widely recognized weather data providers. Until resolution, traders can continue to adjust positions based on incoming forecasts and real-time conditions. Once the actual high temperature is confirmed, the market settles automatically based on which outcome bracket or range the final reading falls into.

Several factors can shift odds in this market before Jun 19, 2026. Updated seasonal forecasts, atmospheric pressure systems, or unusual weather patterns reported by meteorologists often trigger repricing. Real-time satellite data and short-range model updates in the days leading up to June 19 typically drive the largest moves. Major weather events—such as cold fronts, heat waves, or ocean current anomalies—can reshape trader expectations. Media coverage of extreme weather elsewhere may also influence sentiment, as traders recalibrate their confidence in the forecast.
