Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader beliefs about Cape Town's peak temperature on June 11, often diverging from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts rely on numerical models and historical patterns, prediction markets incorporate real-time information, trader expertise, and financial incentives. Markets typically price in uncertainty more dynamically than static forecasts. Comparing Polymarket odds to South African weather service predictions or international models like ECMWF can reveal where traders see model consensus breaking down or where consensus confidence is highest.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the highest temperature in Cape Town on June 11 is priced through outcome shares that partition the likely temperature range into discrete brackets. Each bracket trades independently, with prices reflecting the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. Shares are bought and sold continuously, and the current price of each outcome directly indicates its implied probability. Liquidity and trading volume vary by outcome; more liquid brackets typically have tighter bid-ask spreads. Prices adjust in real time as weather forecasts update and new information reaches the market.
The market resolves at Jun 11, 2026, after the highest temperature in Cape Town on June 11 has been recorded and verified. Resolution depends on official temperature data from a designated weather station or meteorological authority serving Cape Town. The outcome is determined by comparing the recorded high temperature against the predefined brackets or thresholds established at market creation. Once the data is confirmed and published, the winning outcome is settled and traders receive payouts proportional to their holdings in the correct bracket.
Several factors can shift odds for Cape Town's June 11 high temperature. Updated weather model runs—especially from major forecasting centers—often trigger immediate repricing as confidence in specific temperature ranges changes. Seasonal climate patterns, ocean temperature anomalies, and atmospheric pressure systems over southern Africa influence trader expectations. Real-time weather alerts, heat wave warnings, or unusual atmospheric conditions can cause sharp moves. Historical temperature data releases and adjustments to forecast models also drive trading. As June 11 approaches, intraday weather updates and satellite imagery become increasingly influential on market prices.
