Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they reflect real-money incentives and crowd wisdom rather than a single model's output. While meteorologists publish deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric science, this market aggregates the beliefs of many traders with financial skin in the game. Analysts may issue a point estimate or confidence interval; this market instead reveals the collective probability assigned to each temperature band. Over time, markets tend to incorporate new data faster than published forecasts update, making them a complementary signal for tracking how expectations evolve.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker or order-book system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket has its own price, ranging from 0 to 100 cents, where the price reflects the implied probability the market assigns to that outcome occurring. Liquidity and recent trading volume determine how easily you can enter or exit a position at any given price. As new information surfaces—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric readings—traders adjust their positions, causing prices to shift dynamically until resolution.
This market resolves around Jun 27, 2026, once June 27 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Busan that day is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the single highest reading captured during the calendar day in the city. Resolution hinges on confirming the actual peak temperature from reliable meteorological or official weather reporting. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome bracket receive their payout once the final temperature is established and the market settles accordingly.
Major weather model updates, seasonal monsoon patterns, and atmospheric pressure systems over East Asia are key catalysts that could shift prices significantly. Publication of extended forecasts from meteorological agencies, tropical storm development, or unexpected heat waves would prompt rapid repricing. Real-time temperature readings in the days leading up to June 27 will anchor expectations closer to the actual outcome. Additionally, historical climate data releases or anomalies in regional weather patterns could influence trader positioning. As the event date approaches, intraday price swings typically intensify as uncertainty narrows and the market converges toward the true outcome.
