Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds reflect aggregated trader sentiment and can diverge from traditional weather forecasts issued by meteorological agencies or climate analysts. While professional forecasters rely on atmospheric models and historical data, prediction markets incorporate real-time information and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. For Beijing's June 9 temperature, comparing Polymarket odds to official China Meteorological Administration forecasts or international weather models can reveal whether traders are pricing in factors analysts may underweight, such as unusual weather patterns or seasonal anomalies.

The market resolves on Jun 9, 2026, after the highest temperature in Beijing on June 9 has been recorded and verified. Resolution depends on official temperature data for that date, typically sourced from Beijing's primary meteorological station or national weather authority records. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual recorded high temperature against the predefined thresholds embedded in each contract. Once the official data is published and confirmed, the market settles and winning positions are paid out accordingly.

Several factors could shift market odds before June 9. Seasonal weather pattern updates, tropical cyclone formation or dissipation, and atmospheric pressure anomalies in East Asia can alter temperature expectations. Long-range forecasts from meteorological agencies may revise their predictions, prompting trader repositioning. Urban heat island effects or unusual pollution events could also influence perceptions of Beijing's peak temperature. Additionally, historical temperature records for early June and real-time weather model consensus updates will likely drive trading activity as the event date approaches.
