Prediction markets like this one often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-money incentives and crowd intelligence. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical data, traders here are betting their capital on the outcome, which can surface early signals or consensus shifts. Comparing this market's implied odds to published forecasts from weather agencies reveals whether the crowd is more bullish or bearish on higher temperatures than official models suggest. Both sources have merit; markets excel at aggregating dispersed information, while institutional forecasts bring specialized expertise.
This market resolves around Jun 25, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Beijing on that date becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the final reading against the threshold specified in the market contract. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the event, once official temperature data is published and confirmed.
Weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and atmospheric pressure systems can all influence trader expectations in this market. Major weather events or anomalies reported in the days leading up to June 25 may trigger repricing as participants adjust their confidence. Real-time temperature readings from nearby stations or early-morning data on the event day itself often spark late trading activity. Additionally, any revisions to climate or heat-wave outlooks from meteorological agencies could prompt traders to reassess their positions and shift the odds.
