Frequently asked questions

The Beijing temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Beijing on June 14. Traders buy and sell shares based on their predictions of whether the day's peak will hit specific thresholds. The interface displays current odds, historical price movements, and 24-hour volume data, giving participants a live view of market sentiment around this weather outcome. This dynamic pricing reflects collective expectations from the prediction community as new information emerges.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader conviction and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. While meteorologists issue probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the beliefs of participants who profit or lose based on the actual outcome. Comparing the implied probability here to published forecasts from national weather services can reveal where the crowd sees risk differently—whether traders expect higher or lower temperatures than official models suggest. Both sources offer value; markets excel at capturing shifting sentiment as new data arrives.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares that represent different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share costs between 0 and 1 cent, and the current market price reflects the probability implied by recent trades. If you believe the highest temperature will exceed a given threshold, you buy shares at the current ask price; if you think it will fall short, you sell at the bid. The spread between buy and sell prices tightens as volume increases and more traders participate, making the market more efficient over time.

This market resolves around Jun 14, 2026, once the event has occurred and the highest temperature for that day in Beijing is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the actual recorded peak temperature on June 14, confirmed through official meteorological data. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market end time, once the temperature reading is finalized and published.

Weather model updates and seasonal forecasts are primary drivers of price movement in this market. Major atmospheric patterns—such as heat waves, cold fronts, or shifts in monsoon activity—can significantly alter trader expectations. Real-time satellite data, upper-air observations, and official meteorological alerts will influence bids and asks as June 14 approaches. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and recent Beijing climate trends may prompt traders to adjust positions. As the event date nears, intraday weather reports and final model consensus will likely create the most volatile trading activity.
