Prediction market prices reflect real-money bets from traders worldwide, often incorporating meteorological data, historical patterns, and seasonal models faster than traditional analyst consensus. While weather forecasters publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on numerical models, this market aggregates dispersed information through price discovery. Comparing the implied probability in this market to published forecasts from China's meteorological authority or international weather services can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk relative to expert predictions, though both approaches rely on similar underlying atmospheric data.
This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Beijing on that date becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature against the contract threshold, with no ambiguity in measurement since official weather stations report precise readings. Resolution occurs shortly after the close of the trading day, allowing the market to settle based on confirmed meteorological data rather than preliminary or disputed figures.
Updated weather forecasts from meteorological agencies are the primary driver of price movement in this market. Major atmospheric patterns—such as the arrival of heat waves, monsoon systems, or cold fronts—can shift trader expectations significantly. Real-time satellite imagery, upper-air pressure data, and seasonal climate indices also influence positioning. Additionally, any revisions to historical temperature records or anomalies in regional weather patterns leading up to July 9 may prompt traders to reassess their probability estimates, causing notable swings in the contract price as new information emerges.
