Frequently asked questions

The Beijing July temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movement for whether the highest temperature in Beijing will reach 38°C or higher on July 2. Traders use this interface to monitor current market sentiment, view 24-hour volume activity, and analyze how odds have shifted as the event date approaches. The dashboard provides a live snapshot of what prediction market participants collectively believe about peak summer heat in Beijing, updated continuously as new trades execute. This serves as a dynamic alternative to traditional weather forecasts, reflecting market-based probability rather than meteorological modeling alone.

Prediction market odds and traditional analyst forecasts often diverge because they reflect different methodologies. Weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical climate data to project temperature ranges, while this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders betting real capital on the outcome. Markets can sometimes price in tail risks or consensus shifts faster than official forecasts update. Comparing the current market odds for a 38°C high against published meteorological predictions for Beijing on July 2 reveals whether traders are more or less bullish on extreme heat than the consensus forecast. Both sources offer value: models provide scientific rigor, while markets reveal what informed participants actually expect to occur.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader positions into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy or sell shares representing "yes" (38°C or higher) or "no" (below 38°C) outcomes, and the pool's balance determines the probability displayed. As more capital flows into one side, the odds shift accordingly. The current odds reflect the marginal trader's assessment at that moment, not an average or consensus. Liquidity depth and recent trading volume influence how quickly prices respond to new information about Beijing's weather forecast or seasonal patterns.

This market resolves around Jul 2, 2026, once July 2 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Beijing that day is confirmed. The outcome is determined by verifying the actual peak temperature against credible public weather reporting. If the highest temperature reaches 38°C or above, the "yes" outcome wins; if it stays below 38°C, the "no" outcome prevails. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market end time, once official temperature data becomes available and is validated. Traders holding winning shares receive their payout automatically once the outcome is finalized.

Several factors can shift odds in this market before Jul 2, 2026. Updated weather forecasts from meteorological agencies predicting stronger or weaker heat waves will influence trader positioning. Seasonal climate patterns, such as early monsoon activity or persistent high-pressure systems over northern China, can alter expectations. Real-time atmospheric data and satellite imagery released in the days leading up to July 2 may reveal developing conditions. Major weather events elsewhere in Asia or global climate anomalies can also sway sentiment. As the event date nears, intraday forecasts become more precise, often triggering sharp repricing. News about urban heat island effects or air quality alerts in Beijing may also prompt traders to reassess the likelihood of extreme temperatures.
