Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk appetite, and information flow. While weather analysts rely on numerical models and historical patterns, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with financial incentives to be accurate. Traders may price in uncertainty or tail risks that official forecasts downplay, or they may underweight rare but high-impact scenarios. Comparing the implied probabilities here to published forecasts from national weather services can reveal where market participants see asymmetric opportunities or disagree with consensus.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that allows traders to buy and sell shares of each temperature outcome continuously. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome reflects the ratio of liquidity allocated to it; as traders buy shares for higher temperatures, those prices rise and lower-temperature shares fall. Fees are applied to each trade, and the spread between bid and ask prices depends on the depth of liquidity available. Real-time price discovery ensures that the odds update instantly as new information or trading activity arrives.
This market resolves around Jun 25, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Ankara on June 25 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the final temperature reading against the predefined outcome brackets offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome bracket receive their payout, while losing positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market close, pending confirmation of the official temperature data.
Major weather model updates, seasonal forecasts, and atmospheric pressure systems over the Mediterranean and Middle East could significantly shift odds. Large-scale climate patterns such as heat waves or unusual jet stream positioning may trigger sharp repricing. Real-time satellite imagery and short-range forecasts released in the days before June 25 typically cause the most dramatic moves. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and anomalies in regional weather patterns can influence trader positioning. Breaking news about volcanic activity, solar cycles, or other geophysical events may also impact expectations.
