Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk appetite, and information flow rather than relying solely on numerical weather models. While meteorologists publish deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric science, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with financial incentives to be accurate. Comparing the two reveals whether traders are pricing in more uncertainty, skepticism, or confidence than official forecasts suggest—a useful cross-check for understanding how different information sources value the same event.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker or order-book system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range outcome has its own price, expressed as a probability between 0 and 100, and the cost to buy or sell shares adjusts based on liquidity and cumulative trading volume. As new information arrives—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric conditions—traders adjust their positions, causing prices to move and reflecting the market's evolving consensus on the most likely high temperature for that day.
This market resolves around Jun 19, 2026, once June 19 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Ankara that day is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data to the temperature ranges offered in the market, and whichever range contains the verified high temperature is declared correct. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric anomalies can significantly move prices in this market. Heat waves, cold fronts, or unexpected pressure systems affecting the Eastern Mediterranean and Anatolia region would trigger rapid repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for June 19 in Ankara, El Niño or La Niña conditions, and solar activity trends may influence trader positioning. As the event date approaches, intraday weather updates and short-range model consensus typically drive the most volatile price movements.
