Prediction market odds aggregate the collective judgment of traders with real money at stake, often capturing nuanced probability estimates that differ from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather agencies publish deterministic or probabilistic temperature predictions, this market reflects traders' willingness to bet on specific outcomes. Comparing the implied odds here to official forecasts from Turkey's meteorological institute can reveal where the crowd sees upside or downside risk relative to expert models, though both sources draw on similar underlying atmospheric data.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares of outcome contracts, with the market price reflecting the collective probability assigned to each temperature range. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a particular outcome will occur, the higher its price rises; conversely, skepticism drives prices lower. This continuous price discovery mechanism means odds update in real time as new information—such as updated weather models or seasonal patterns—becomes available to market participants.
This market resolves around Jun 14, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Ankara on June 14 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the actual meteorological reading from that date, confirmed through official weather reporting. Resolution typically occurs within hours or days after the event, allowing traders to settle their positions based on the final, documented temperature figure.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and atmospheric anomalies can significantly influence trader expectations and market prices. El Niño or La Niña developments, changes in jet-stream positioning, or unexpected heat waves across the Eastern Mediterranean region may prompt repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for mid-June in Ankara serve as reference points; traders often adjust positions as the event date approaches and short-term forecasts become more precise. Real-time meteorological updates and climate alerts are key catalysts for volatility in this market.
