Prediction markets like this one often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they aggregate trader beliefs rather than meteorological models. While meteorologists publish deterministic temperature ranges based on atmospheric data, this market reflects collective expectations weighted by financial incentive. Traders may price in uncertainty, historical volatility, or late-breaking climate signals that formal forecasts have not yet incorporated, creating a distinct probability estimate that complements—but does not replace—expert analysis.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell orders. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current probability reflects the balance of capital betting yes versus no on whether Ankara's peak temperature will be 30°C. As traders deposit funds and place positions, the price moves continuously, with larger trades causing sharper shifts. This mechanism ensures prices remain responsive to new information and trader conviction right up until the market closes.
This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Ankara on July 9 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is binary: if the peak temperature meets or exceeds 30°C, the yes position wins; otherwise, the no position prevails. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market close, pending confirmation of the official temperature reading from a recognized meteorological authority.
Major weather pattern shifts—such as unexpected heat waves, cold fronts, or monsoon activity—could significantly alter trader expectations and shift odds. Updated seasonal forecasts, atmospheric pressure anomalies, or historical temperature comparisons for that date may prompt repricing. Additionally, late-breaking climate alerts or model consensus changes in the final days before July 9 often trigger sharp trading activity. Real-time news about regional weather systems and trader positioning adjustments will likely drive volatility as the event date nears.
