Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Amsterdam temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in Amsterdam on June 14. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays current implied probabilities, 24-hour volume activity, and order book depth. This live pricing reflects the collective forecast of market participants as new weather data and forecasts emerge. The interface lets you monitor how sentiment shifts across outcome brackets throughout the trading period.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, sentiment, and information flow rather than relying solely on statistical models. While weather agencies publish deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with financial incentives to be accurate. Comparing the implied probabilities here to official forecasts from meteorological institutes can reveal where traders expect model bias or where emerging data has shifted expectations. Both sources offer value: forecasts provide scientific rigor, while market odds capture dynamic, decentralized judgment.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) or order-book system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket has its own contract, and the price of a share reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As new weather data, seasonal patterns, or forecasts emerge, traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The cost to buy a share ranges from near-zero to nearly one dollar, with the sum of all outcome prices equaling one dollar, ensuring the probabilities are internally consistent.

This market resolves around Jun 14, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Amsterdam on June 14 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the final temperature reading against the predefined brackets offered in the market. Traders who held shares in the winning bracket receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading day, pending confirmation of the official temperature data.

Weather model updates, seasonal climate patterns, and atmospheric pressure systems are primary drivers of price movement in this market. Major weather alerts, heat waves, or cold fronts affecting Northern Europe can shift trader expectations significantly. Real-time temperature readings in the days leading up to June 14 will anchor forecasts more tightly. Additionally, historical Amsterdam temperature data and long-range climate anomalies may influence positioning. As the event date approaches, intraday temperature trends and hourly forecasts will likely trigger sharp repricing as uncertainty narrows and the outcome becomes clearer.
