Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate trader sentiment, historical volatility, and real-time information flow. While meteorologists issue deterministic point forecasts or probability ranges based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the financial commitments of many participants who profit or lose based on accuracy. Comparing the implied probability in this market to official forecasts from national weather services or research institutions can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk relative to expert consensus. Such gaps sometimes signal emerging data or market inefficiencies worth monitoring.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares of each temperature outcome, with the market price reflecting the collective probability assigned by participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome contract trades independently, and the current odds are determined by supply and demand rather than a centralized bookmaker. As new weather models release or conditions change, traders adjust their positions, causing prices to shift. The top outcome currently reflects market sentiment, though prices remain fluid until the market closes on Jul 6, 2026.
This market resolves around Jul 6, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Amsterdam on July 6 is finalized and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature reading against the specific thresholds embedded in each contract. Traders holding shares in the outcome that matches the verified temperature receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of trading, pending confirmation from official meteorological records.
Major weather model updates, seasonal pattern shifts, and atmospheric pressure systems are key catalysts that can swing odds significantly. Release of new ensemble forecasts from European meteorological centers often triggers repricing as traders adjust to revised temperature probabilities. Unexpected heat waves, cold fronts, or jet stream anomalies can shift expectations rapidly. Additionally, real-time temperature readings in the days leading up to July 6 provide concrete data that traders use to refine their positions. Social media discussion of extreme weather events and news coverage of climate patterns may also influence trader behavior and market prices.
