Frequently asked questions

The dashboard for the Amsterdam temperature market on Polymarket displays real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in Amsterdam on July 10. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the current market price reflects the collective forecast of participants. You can monitor how odds shift as new weather data emerges, track cumulative trading volume, and review the price history leading up to resolution. This live tracking helps you understand how the market is pricing in meteorological conditions and seasonal patterns for that specific date.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. While meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical data, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants who profit only if their forecast is correct. Comparing the implied temperature range from market odds to official forecasts from weather services can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk. These differences highlight how markets sometimes price in tail risks or consensus blind spots that traditional models may underweight.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares tied to specific temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome reflects supply and demand; as more traders bet on higher temperatures, those shares become more expensive, and vice versa. Shares are fractional and range from 0 to 1 cent, with the sum of all outcome prices equaling 1 cent. This continuous pricing mechanism allows you to enter or exit positions at any time before the market closes, and the final price at resolution determines payouts.

This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Amsterdam on July 10 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the temperature thresholds defined in each outcome option. Resolution occurs after the day has passed and official measurements are confirmed, ensuring all traders have equal access to the same factual basis for settlement.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases can all drive significant price swings in this market. Heat waves, high-pressure systems, or unexpected cold fronts moving into the region would reshape trader expectations. Long-range climate outlooks and historical temperature anomalies for early July also influence positioning. As the date approaches, short-term weather models become more reliable, often triggering sharp repricing. Traders monitor meteorological alerts and European weather services closely to stay ahead of consensus shifts.
