Similar to the Denver event, this measures consecutive days above 90°F in Austin during the same week. The resolution hinges on temperature data from a specific Austin weather station meeting the same strict criteria for averaging and streak continuity.
The event resolves to Yes if, within the period September 14, 2026 through September 20, 2026, there are at least 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 consecutive days on which the daily average temperature at KAUS in Austin strictly exceeds 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The daily average temperature is calculated as the arithmetic mean of hourly temperature values reported by The Weather Company from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM local time, rounded to the nearest whole degree. Only days within the specified period may count toward a streak. A day with an average of exactly 90 degrees Fahrenheit does not satisfy the condition, and any day with fewer than 18 reported hourly values breaks the streak. Data as published at the Expiration Time will be used, with later revisions disregarded.
Currently, prediction market odds offer a unique perspective compared to traditional analyst forecasts for this event. While weather analysts provide projections based on models and historical data, this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. Discrepancies may arise due to differing interpretations of data, the inclusion of subjective factors, or simply the dynamic nature of prediction markets responding to new information. It’s important to consider both sources when evaluating the likelihood of sustained high temperatures in Austin.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of a contract reflects the market’s implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the likelihood of consecutive days above 90°F in Austin. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s depth and volume indicate the level of confidence traders have in their predictions, and can shift rapidly with new weather data or changing forecasts.
This market resolves around Sep 22, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the resolution will be based on the average daily temperature in Austin, Texas, during the week of September 14, 2026. The number of consecutive days with an average temperature exceeding 90°F will be tallied to determine whether the market resolves in favor of the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ outcome. Official temperature data from reputable meteorological sources will be used for verification.
Several signals and events could significantly impact this market. Long-range weather forecasts released in the months leading up to September 2026 will be closely watched. Any indications of a developing high-pressure system or unusually warm air masses could drive up the price of contracts predicting a heat wave. Conversely, forecasts suggesting cooler, wetter conditions could lower prices. Additionally, broader climate reports or discussions about changing weather patterns in Texas could influence trader sentiment and affect the volume and price of this market.
