Description

This market will resolve to "Yes" if the US national average price of regular gasoline published by AAA is equal to or above the specified price for options marked ↑ (High), or equal to or below the specified price for options marked ↓ (Low), for any date from Monday, October 26, 2026 through Sunday, November 1, 2026. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". This market resolves based on the US national average price of regular gasoline published by AAA at https://gasprices.aaa.com/ in the "National Average Gas Prices" table under the "Regular" column and the "Current Avg." row. Each date's price is the price displayed at 10:00 AM ET on that date, provided that at that time the "Price as of" date shown on the webpage is that date and the "Yesterday Avg." row in the same column shows the previous date's price. If either condition is not met at 10:00 AM ET, the price will be observed at the first time on that date at which both are met; if both are not met by 11:59 PM ET on that date, the price displayed in the table at that time will be used. If AAA does not display the US national average price of regular gasoline in the table at the time of observation, the price displayed elsewhere on the webpage will be used. If AAA displays no US national average price of regular gasoline on the specified webpage at any time on one or more dates within the specified week, this market will resolve based on the prices observed for the remaining dates. The resolution source for this market will be the American Automobile Association (AAA) (https://gasprices.aaa.com/). Note: AAA currently publishes gas prices to four decimal places (e.g., $4.3718). The price will be used as published, without rounding.

Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the gas price market dashboard provides a real-time view of how traders are pricing the likelihood of different gas price levels the week of October 26. You’ll find the current implied probabilities for various price ranges, along with the total volume traded, currently at $8,691, and the 24-hour volume, which is $1,762. The dashboard also displays the historical price action of this market, allowing you to see how sentiment has shifted over time and identify potential trends in expectations about future gas prices.

Currently, prediction market odds reflect a collective forecast about gas prices that may differ from those of traditional analysts. While analysts often rely on economic models and supply/demand projections, this market aggregates the insights of many individual traders. It’s possible that the wisdom of the crowd, as expressed through this market, anticipates factors not fully captured in conventional analyses, such as unexpected geopolitical events or shifts in consumer behavior. Comparing this market’s predictions to those from energy experts provides a broader perspective on potential price movements.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell contracts representing their belief about the future gas price. The price of these contracts directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust dynamically, creating a constantly updated forecast. The more a particular price range is traded, the higher its implied probability, and vice versa. This creates a market-driven assessment of gas price expectations.

This market resolves around Nov 1, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the average U.S. regular gasoline price is verifiable from credible public reporting for the week of October 26. The resolution will be based on data from a widely recognized and trusted source of energy price information. This ensures an objective and transparent determination of the market’s outcome, reflecting the actual gas price during the specified period. Traders will then be able to claim their winnings or adjust their strategies for future markets.

Several factors could significantly influence this market before it resolves. Major geopolitical events, such as disruptions in oil production or changes in OPEC+ policy, could cause substantial price swings. Unexpected shifts in global demand, driven by economic growth or recessionary fears, would also be impactful. Furthermore, weather events, particularly hurricanes affecting oil refineries in the Gulf Coast, and any significant changes in U.S. energy policy could move this market. Monitoring these signals will be key to understanding potential shifts in trader sentiment and price expectations.
