This market will resolve to "Up" if the official S&P 500 Index closing price for S&P 500 (SPX) on Monday, August 10, 2026 is higher than the official S&P 500 Index closing price for SPX on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official S&P 500 Index closing price for S&P 500 (SPX) on Monday, August 10, 2026 is lower than the official S&P 500 Index closing price for SPX on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If SPX does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by S&P 500 Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Currently, this market reflects trader expectations through its odds, which can diverge from traditional analyst forecasts. Analysts often weigh macroeconomic indicators, corporate earnings, and geopolitical factors when publishing their outlooks. In contrast, this market incorporates the collective bet of active participants, reacting instantly to news and shifting sentiment, often producing a more dynamic — and sometimes contrarian — view of where the S&P 500 may head.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous order book where buyers and sellers place bids and asks. The displayed probability represents the aggregated expectation of all participants, updating instantly with each trade. Market depth and liquidity can shift rapidly based on trading volume and major economic releases influencing investor sentiment toward the index.
This market resolves around Aug 10, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final settlement will reflect whether the S&P 500 is higher or lower at the specified close time, based on widely accepted financial data sources.
Key events such as Federal Reserve policy announcements, major earnings reports from large-cap companies, sudden shifts in global economic data, or geopolitical developments could strongly influence this market. Traders will also watch technical chart patterns and volatility indicators, as well as any surprise announcements from central banks or significant market interventions that could sway expectations for the index’s direction.
