The Academy Awards are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to honor outstanding artistic and technical achievements in film. For the 99th Academy Awards in 2027, nominations are scheduled to be announced on January 21, followed by the ceremony on March 14, 2027. This market will resolve to "Yes" if the listed film is nominated for the 99th Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. If a film is not officially nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay when the 2027 nominees are announced, the corresponding market will immediately resolve to "No". If, for any reason, no nominations are declared by March 14, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No". The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Academy Awards and AMPAS, including data from their website (e.g., https://www.oscars.org/) and the live broadcast of the award ceremony; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Currently, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than many traditional analyst forecasts for the Best Original Screenplay race. While many analysts are focusing on critical acclaim and awards season buzz, this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are actively putting capital behind their predictions. Often, these traders consider factors beyond critical reception, such as box office success and campaign strategies. It's important to note that analyst predictions and market odds can diverge, offering a valuable comparison point for those following the awards season.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous double auction, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether a film will receive a nomination. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome, with higher prices indicating a greater likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price movements are driven by supply and demand – if more people believe a film is likely to be nominated, they will buy shares, driving up the price, and vice versa. This creates a dynamic and responsive market that reflects the evolving perceptions of traders.
This market resolves around Mar 15, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the official nominations for the Best Original Screenplay category are announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and are verifiable from credible public reporting. The market will settle to 100% for each film that receives a nomination, and 0% for those that do not. Traders who correctly predicted the nominees will profit based on the odds at the time of their trades, while those who predicted incorrectly will lose their investment.
Several key events could significantly impact this market before it resolves. Major awards announcements from guilds like the Writers Guild of America and the Golden Globes can heavily influence perceptions of a film's chances. Positive or negative critical reviews, particularly from influential publications, could also shift the odds. Furthermore, any significant changes in the awards campaign strategies employed by studios or individual films could move the market. Unexpected box office success or controversies surrounding a film could also play a role in how traders assess its likelihood of receiving a nomination.
