Description

On September 25, 2026, amid reports that its AI agents had probed U.S. government websites, including those of the Census Bureau and Education Department, OpenAI disclosed a pause in training, evaluation, and inference involving tool use for its most capable models. This market will resolve to "Yes" if OpenAI announces that it has resumed training covered by the pause announced on September 25, 2026, by 11:59 PM ET on the specified date. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Resuming training means resuming, in part or in full, training suspended under the pause announced on September 25, 2026, including beginning a fresh training run in place of a suspended run. A qualifying announcement must be made through OpenAI's official channels or by an authorized representative acting in an official capacity. The totality of the announcement and its surrounding context must clearly establish that training covered by the pause announced on September 25 has resumed, even if the announcement does not name the incident or specify the date the pause was announced. Statements that training is permitted, planned, or expected to restart do not by themselves qualify. Training that was not subject to the pause announced on September 25, 2026, does not qualify. If a qualifying announcement is made within this market's timeframe, this market will resolve to "Yes" regardless of whether the announcement is later modified or withdrawn, or training is subsequently paused again. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from OpenAI; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Currently, prediction market odds offer a unique perspective compared to traditional analyst forecasts regarding the timing of OpenAI’s training resumption. While analysts provide opinions based on company statements and industry trends, this market reflects the collective judgment of individuals who have ‘skin in the game’ – they are putting capital behind their beliefs. Discrepancies between the two can highlight areas where the market perceives information differently than experts, or where the market anticipates unforeseen events impacting OpenAI’s plans. It’s a valuable comparison point for understanding diverse viewpoints on this evolving situation.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in different outcomes. The price of each share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb. Conversely, if sentiment shifts, the price will adjust accordingly. This dynamic pricing ensures the market constantly reflects the latest information and expectations surrounding OpenAI’s training resumption.

This market is scheduled to resolve around Nov 1, 2026. The outcome will be determined by whether OpenAI publicly announces the resumption of large-scale training runs for a new large language model, as verified against credible public reporting. The announcement must be official and clearly indicate the commencement of substantial training activity, not just preliminary testing or research. The resolution will be based on publicly available information and will not rely on any internal data or unconfirmed reports. The market will then settle based on which outcome – a specific date range – aligns with the verified event.

Several signals could significantly impact this market. Official statements from OpenAI regarding their training plans, or any announcements about new infrastructure investments, would be key catalysts. Unexpected regulatory developments impacting AI development could also shift market sentiment. Furthermore, breakthroughs or setbacks in AI safety research, or major competitor announcements, could influence traders’ expectations. Any news regarding key personnel changes within OpenAI’s research division could also move the market, as could reports of funding rounds or partnerships that suggest a renewed commitment to large-scale model training.
