This market will resolve to "Up" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Monday, October 5, 2026 is higher than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Monday, October 5, 2026 is lower than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NYA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by NYSE Composite Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Currently, prediction market odds reflect a collective forecast from traders on Polymarket. It’s often insightful to compare this to traditional analyst forecasts regarding the NYA. Do analysts predict a rise or fall in the index leading up to October 5? Are their projections more bullish or bearish than the implied probability in this market? Examining these differences can reveal whether the ‘wisdom of the crowd’ aligns with, or diverges from, expert opinion on the direction of the NYA.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about whether the NYA will close higher or lower on October 5. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of each outcome, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe the NYA will go up, the higher the price of the ‘up’ shares, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing allows for real-time assessment of market expectations.
This market resolves around Oct 5, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the direction of the NYA on that date is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on whether the NYA closes higher or lower than its opening price on October 5.
