This market will resolve to "Up" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Monday, October 12, 2026 is higher than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA (NYA) on Monday, October 12, 2026 is lower than the official NYSE Composite Index closing price for NYA on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If NYA does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by NYSE Composite Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Comparing prediction market odds to analyst forecasts reveals how collective intelligence stacks up against expert opinion. Often, this market demonstrates an ability to synthesize information quickly, potentially outperforming traditional polls or individual analyst predictions. While analysts may offer specific price targets or justifications, the odds on Polymarket reflect a real-money consensus view. Discrepancies between the two can highlight areas where the market perceives risks or opportunities that analysts may have overlooked, offering a unique perspective on potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous, decentralized exchange mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether the NYA will close up or down on October 12. As more shares are purchased on one side, the price adjusts, reflecting the changing probabilities. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a 'yes' share (NYA up) indicates the market’s implied probability of that outcome, while the price of a 'no' share (NYA down) reflects the opposite. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information and evolving sentiment.
This market resolves around Oct 12, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on whether the closing value of the New York Stock Exchange (NYA) index on October 12 is higher or lower than its opening value on the same day. This is determined by widely recognized financial data sources and is not dependent on any single reporting entity. Traders will then be able to claim their winnings or account for any losses based on the final result.
Several signals or events could significantly move this market before Oct 12, 2026. Major economic data releases, such as inflation reports or employment figures, could influence investor sentiment and impact the NYA. Unexpected geopolitical events or shifts in monetary policy by the Federal Reserve are also potential catalysts. Furthermore, significant news regarding major companies within the NYA could trigger price swings.
