Prediction market odds reflect aggregated trader beliefs and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts rely on physics-based models and historical data, this market incorporates real-time information, trader expertise, and market incentives. Comparing the implied probability here to official forecasts from China's meteorological authority or international weather services can reveal where traders see additional risk or confidence. Markets sometimes price in uncertainty that models understate, or they may overweight recent trends. Tracking both sources helps identify where consensus breaks down and which forecasts carry the most conviction.
This market resolves around Jul 10, 2026, once July 10 has passed and the lowest temperature in Shanghai for that day is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual recorded minimum temperature against the contract thresholds traders have wagered on. Resolution occurs after official meteorological data is published and confirmed, ensuring all participants have access to the same factual basis for settlement. Early resolution is possible if the outcome becomes mathematically certain before the end date.
Major weather model updates and seasonal forecasts will likely shift trader positioning as they refine expectations for Shanghai's climate on July 10. Tropical storm activity, monsoon patterns, or unexpected atmospheric changes in the weeks leading up to the date could trigger sharp repricing. Real-time satellite imagery and short-range forecasts issued closer to July 10 typically drive the most volatile moves. Historical temperature anomalies, El Niño or La Niña conditions, and any unusual heat or cold events in the region may also influence how traders assess the probability of specific temperature outcomes. News coverage of extreme weather elsewhere can sometimes shift broader market sentiment.
