This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the lowest temperature recorded by the Hong Kong Observatory in degrees Celsius on 31 May '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from the Hong Kong Observatory, specifically the "Absolute Daily Min (deg. C)" the specified date once information is finalized in the relevant "Daily Extract", available here: https://www.weather.gov.hk/en/cis/climat.htm This market can not resolve until data for this date has been published. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures in Celsius to one decimal place (eg, 9.1°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Any revisions to temperatures recorded after data is initially published for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect aggregated trader expectations and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts issue deterministic temperature ranges based on climate models and historical data, prediction markets price in uncertainty and real-time information flow. Comparing Polymarket implied probabilities to official Hong Kong Observatory forecasts or seasonal climate outlooks can reveal where the crowd sees risk differently from experts. Markets may price in tail risks or unusual weather patterns that analysts downweight, making side-by-side comparison valuable for identifying potential mispricings.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, this event is priced through outcome shares that traders buy and sell to express their beliefs about the minimum temperature threshold. Each outcome represents a specific temperature range or condition, and the price of each share reflects the collective probability assigned by the market. As traders update their positions based on weather forecasts, seasonal patterns, and real-time atmospheric data, prices adjust continuously. The current market price directly translates to an implied probability for each outcome, allowing traders to assess whether they believe the market is over or underestimating the likelihood of particular temperature scenarios.
The market resolves on May 31, 2026, after the May 31 observation period closes. Resolution is determined by the actual lowest temperature recorded in Hong Kong on that date. Official meteorological data from a designated source establishes the final temperature, which is then matched against the outcome brackets defined in the market. Once the data is confirmed and verified, the market settles automatically, and traders' positions are credited or debited based on whether their chosen outcome matched the realized temperature.
Several factors can shift odds for this event. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies indicating warmer or cooler patterns will influence trader positioning. Tropical weather systems, monsoon activity, or unusual atmospheric circulation patterns in late May could trigger significant repricing. Historical temperature anomalies and climate oscillations like ENSO phases may prompt market reassessment. Real-time weather model updates released in the days leading up to May 31 will likely drive trading volume and price volatility. Additionally, any extreme weather events or climate news affecting East Asia could alter market expectations about Hong Kong's minimum temperature on that specific date.
